Dolly Parton to star in a musical on TikTok about Taco Bell’s Mexican pizza

Dolly Parton is starring in a TikTok musical about Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza. The musical will premiere live on TikTok on May 26th. The country music icon shared the news about her leading role in “Mexican Pizza: The Musical” on social media. “I’m making #MexicanPizzaTheMusical with @TacoBell,” Parton wrote in an Instagram post, which contained a photo of the screenplay. The satirical musical is “based on the true story of the Internet losing its mind” after the fast-food chain removed the product from its menu in late 2020, according to the screenplay shared on Parton’s Instagram post.

“They used to make a little … Mexican Pizza,” Parton said of Taco Bell, “which is also good. I love that.”

***UPDATE 5/27/22***

“Mexican Pizza: The Musical” has been postponed.  The event will likely be rescheduled to a later date.

KFC Pauses Development in Russia

After the country’s invasion of Ukraine, Yum! Brands Inc., parent company of KFC, is pausing investment in Russia, a key market that helped the brand achieve record development in 2021.

Yum!, which has at least 1,000 KFC locations and 50 Pizza Hut locations in Russia that are nearly all independent franchisees, said in a post on its website dated March 7th that it had “suspended all investment and restaurant development in Russia while we continue to assess additional options.”

Last year was a record year of development for KFC, led by new restaurants opening in China, India and Russia, executives said during an earnings call on Feb. 9. In Russia, the company was opening about 100 new restaurants annually and had expected to continue a “a similar expansion strategy going forward.”

Many companies have begun to pull their business out of Russia amid sanctions and outrage over the invasion of Ukraine.
